Poetry
This Too Shall Pass
Winding down the familiar trail home,
Amidst the spray of blue wildflowers.
My thoughts return to the Lord again,
His magnificent and mighty powers.
The farmhouse now long deserted
It’s shutters banging in the wind
The faded old red barn beckoning
Softly calling me to come in.
Memories of the past, gather quietly,
The smell of hay and leather drift,
Fragmented whispers of long ago,
Reminding me of His priceless gift.
The rustic barn was my hiding place
As a child I came here in solitude
To pour out my young heart to Jesus
T’was here, my life was renewed.
Here, when I heard His Spirit call me:
“Draw nigh, my daughter unto Me
Hide in the shadow of My wings.
And I shall draw nigh unto thee.”
“In life you will have many sorrows,
Bur remember, this too shall pass.
I have prepared a place in heaven,
I am the Lord, the First and the Last.”
So long ago I trusted and believed,
A faith so childlike and yearning….
In my age now my hope is fleeting,
And in life, I find I’m still learning.
The forgotten hay a welcome refuge,
I fall in submission to the King.
A child once again in heart and soul,
To His feet, my shame I do bring.
In pain and broken-ness, reclaiming,
Forgiveness only He can bestow.
The road I’ve traveled a long time,
Is not the Way I’m destined to go.
In humbleness, with my tears exhausted,
His Spirit again drew nigh at last.
He wrapped His presence around me,
Whispered “daughter, this too shall pass.”

This is beautiful, and very well written. It also takes me back to a time when life was innocent and simple. Growing up in the country, you learn at an early age, to respect God and all the beauty he blesses us with.
Thanks for sharing this lovely poem.
