Anger has health implications. It can cause your adrenaline and blood pressure to shoot up beyond normal levels. If you're extremely angry, it can lead you to hurt someone or do something you'll regret later on.

How do you control your anger before it controls you? How do you take control of yourself when experiencing the destructive effects of this hazardous madman called "anger?"

Let me suggest several practical tips.

1.) Calm your self down.

Relax by taking a deep breath first. As you exhale, visualize all those bottled-up fury come out of your body system. Out of your nose and mouth! Release it and be free. You can repeat this several times until you feel physically relieved.

Calm your self don by also visualizing a beautiful, peaceful place. You are most happy, calm, and relaxed when in that place. It may be a place like a beach, a garden or other scenic locations. Just see your self being there in your mind, inhaling the serene essence of the environment.

2.) Find safe outlets for your anger.

Your friend or wife betrayed you. Your trust is damaged. You're really, really mad!

Hold it! Restrain your self.

Try your best to get away first from the person as far as you can. You don't want to kill or hurt that person! Destructive anger can possess you into doing something illegal, damaging, and murderous to your self and future. Just hold it!

But you ask, How do you release your anger that's pent up inside?

How about a punching bag? Kick a punching bag. Punch it, strangle it as you imagine the punching bag as your enemy. Or, you may wish to punch and kick through thin air if you feel like it!

Another physical way of releasing it is by shouting. Find a far away and private place where you can be alone with yourself and God. A place where you can pour out your rage alone. Release, command those angry demons to come out of your chest!

3.) Forgive to be free.

Nothing could heal you better than forgiving the one who has hurt you. It is very unhealthy to let the other person control you by your dwelling on unpleasant memories about the other's demeaning acts.

Moreover, even if they have taken something important away from you, does it make sense to sacrifice your health and life for that? Of course not.

Free yourself. Forgive.

4.) Exercise your body.

Endorphins increase in your body when you exercise. It tranforms your anger into a happy mood if you get involved in exercised that you enjoy doing.

5.) Seek the company and support of friends.

Find friends who can be your "sponge." Feel your relief when you voice out all your problems to close friends and relatives. That's the power of catharsis.

Always try to find someone to talk to when you're down or depressed. Especially when you're angry, it's dangerous to be alone. You need others to help you get the thorns out of your chest.

6.) Listen to soothing music or watch a movie.

Music or movies may calm you down as you are transported to "another world." They can soothe your upset spirit.

7.) Pray for peace.

Ask God for peace and guidance that you'll be able to control your anger and temper. Prayers bring inner peace and joy.
