It was the year 1996.
The year I came to know the Lord Jesus personally as my Lord and Savior.

Forgiveness has never been easy for me.
Especially for one whose life was marked with unmet expectations and illusions of being betrayed.
Rejected.
Left Out.
Second child syndrome.

These words could easily summarize my history...

It was the year 1997.
The first sting of betrayal in the church.
The first sting of anger.
The urge to run away fills my heart.
The urge to fight back was even stronger.

Some people say, "Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me...". Denial? The words of my brother in Christ pierced my heart... Wounds no doctor could heal... A scar on my hands I could tolerate... But one in my heart... NEVER!!!

"God, how could you let this happen?"
"I did not deserve to be treated this way..."
"How could I find forgiveness?"
"What did I do to deserve this?"
"What did I do to deserve this?"
"What did I do to deserve this?... I cannot forgive!!!"

That day in the room I rented...
I felt this strange feeling of peace yet loved enveloping my heart...
"Son, I did not deserve to die on the cross either..."

The image of Calvary...
The Son of God...
King of Kings...
Lord of Lords...
On that day, He was portrayed as none of the above...
On that day, He was the Lamb of God came to take the sins of the world...
On that day, He came to die for sinners such as us...
On that day, He paid the full debt of sin...
On that day, these words echoed through history...
"Father, forgive them for they do not know what they are doing..."

On that day, these words slipped through the lips of this young man in search of forgiveness,
"Father, I forgive for he does not know what he is doing..."
