All of us need to be wise each day. Unless tempered by wisdom, the destructive influences around us will put us at risk. It is not only our immediate environment that can put us in danger. Even our very own planet and people are right now in great peril if we do not choose the path to wisdom.

Judging by what we see in some people's lives, isn't health more important than large amounts of money? Then why is it that many still feverishly chase possessions and won't take the time to rest and enjoy? We know from bitter experience that people may do get surrounded by countless goods but die early. Those who neglect their health are unwise and not enlightened.

Take peace, for another example. To live in peace, we need to love and care for others. To love is being wise. To hate one another is stupid; we may end up killing each other! Thank God that, during the past two world wars, our international leaders found the wisdom not to continue destroying ourselves. We need to constantly nurture this kind of wisdom in our world today.

World renowned Dr. Karl Menninger said that wisdom is one of the 6 essential ingredients of happiness. The other 5 are sincerity, integrity, humility, courtesy, and charity. Scriptures also affirm the value of wisdom to live our lives. Ecclesiastes 7:12 says, "Wisdom is a shelter as money is a shelter, but the advantage of knowledge is this: that wisdom preserves the life of its possessor."

There's another reason for us to be wise: our children! Parents, when dealing with their children, need large doses of wisdom. For if they don't have the right kind of wisdom, what will they pass on to the children? The voice of ignorance or unrighteousness starts at home when parents don't let the voice of wisdom be their own.

Let's be aware of the unlimited growth that wisdom can bring to our lives. Anything is possible with wisdom. We can overcome hardships, make our families and businesses thrive, and perform challenging tasks. So, let's embrace it and savor the happiness it brings.
