LET ME TELL YOU A SECRET
When we were kids it was not a rare happening for someone to say, "Let me tell you a SECRET." Adults are not immune to saying that either. The successfulness of the SECRET depended on whom you told it or to how many you told it. Ever hear Johnny Cash's song, "The Ring of Fire?" telling SECRETS often ends up with the "Ring of Gossip." Who has not told a SECRET and days later had it come right back? Sometimes it does resemble the original SECRET. Oftentimes, it has been altered so much that the SECRET can hardly be recognized. The worst case scenario occurs when the SECRET has become malicious with false information, thus becoming hurtful to one or more persons.
The situation is quite different when God tells us a SECRET. It is safe, true, unchanging, and intended to be helpful and uplifting. What God defines to be a SECRET is information that the world does not understand. Only God's children:
"Has God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know Him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe." 1 Cor 1:20b,21.
"For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written :
'I will destroy the wisdom
of the wise;
the intelligence of the
intelligent
I will frustrate.'"
1 Cor 1:18,19.
We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature (Christians), but not the wisdom of this age or the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. No, we speak of God's SECRET wisdom, a wisdom that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. However, as it is written:
'No eye has seen,
no ear has heard,
no mind has conceived
what God has prepared for
those who love Him'---
but God has revealed it to us by His Spirit." 1 Cor 2:6-10.
Jesus put it this way: "At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said 'I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because You have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was Your good pleasure.'" Luke 10:21.
In conclusion, what is hidden to many is a SECRET to others. Listen to what God reveals to you. Pay attention to the preparations God has made for you. Amen.
