Turn the scientists loose with their test tubes and laboratories and money and ambition to try to clone human beings before our very eyes! Set them free to do their very best! For awhile, after Dolly, the sheep, was cloned, this was a hot topic, not so much any more (unless behind the scenes). But in any event it is presumptuous to think that God's singular creative power needs protection from us. That we will accidentally or otherwise usurp His authority or overstep our bounds is about as likely as that one more story on the Tower of Babel would have opened into heaven's lobby. As I recall, no human architectural restraint was needed to prevent that. We need not stand in awe of the ewe or worry about the ramifications of making rams. Man reflects his Maker in imagination, ambition and intelligence, but we are not in danger of going beyond where He intended. We run away with ourselves sometimes with our Frankenstein monsters' takeover, computers ruling the world, etc., story lines. Relax; it's all science fiction, and the operative word is fiction or figment. We are His creation; He made us from dust, and the gap between Creator and creation is well-defined and not subject to encroachment or change except by Himself. So we won't need a Constitutional amendment to protect God's rights. It must be a source of great amusement to Him that his lowly creatures are planning to beat Him at His own game--when every breath we draw is by His permission. If only we could see ourselves as He sees us! It would, as Burns said, "from many a blunder free us, and foolish notion".
As an afterthought, wouldn't it be wonderful if we had the wisdom to apply all that scientific know-how to solve the sad problems of humanity: world hunger, for instance--not making more folks, just feeding the ones we have. Disease runs rampant; there is a disparate quality of life across the earth. Many endeavors could use scientific genius. But no, we rush off to other planets, polish up our information delivery, invent wonderful contraptions to entertain ourselves: and half the world goes to bed hungry every night. And those of us who eat aren't very happy. And so we decide on cloning--or is that clowning?

I think governmental restriction on cloning efforts is wise, just as we need to restrict porno, etc. But, as you so aptly made clear, man cannot imitate nor usurp God. Good article. We really like to justify our governmental actions with promises, don't we? Just like the legalizing of gambling is supposed to finance education. I still laugh over the results of that one. We seem to put education and providing for the poor on the back burner. That is not to say a lot of good has not come out of some technological breakthroughs, for we have a lot of medicines, etc. available to us today as a spin-off from some of these things. But, I am in agreement with you, we do not need to do all this at the expense of forgetting the less fortunate, especially those who can't help their situations. Keep up your excellent writing, please. May God richly bless you.
