FAST SLEDDING
Growing up in Maine, our neighbor farmer had set aside some land for a ski slope. Including a pulley-type rope system for getting back up the hill. Some of us neighborhood children would use the ski slope in the evening for sledding. Having your own sled was to us like having a pair of shoes.
One night when the surface of the slope was an icy crust, we were able to sled far beyond the slope into the adjoining field. My younger brother John had just gotten a new, thick, warm coat with an attached hat. It was brown. He looked like a little teddy bear.
Our sleds went down the slope fast. Really fast. Out onto the field below. John went off to the side and tore right through some barbed wire fencing. His new coat and hat were shredded by the sharp barbs.
However he was unscathed, except for minor scratches, because he was COVERED by that new, thick coat.
In like manner we are COVERED by the BLOOD of Jesus Christ, if we trust in Him: "In Him we have redemption through His BLOOD, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace that He lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding." Ephesians 1:7,8. Being COVERED by the BLOOD of Jesus Christ is the "thick coat" which protects and propels us.
