A child I was of only five
When my daddy went away ,
But then God sent another one
To help me learn to pray.

This man of God who did his best
To tame rebellious me
Frustrated, hurt for many years
No longer wished to be.

On my own, I sought to find
Forgiveness and release
My dad not able to forgive
Or give me any peace.

Ten years passed and children now;
They did not fill the void.
The father’s love I longed to have
Could not be enjoyed.

God knew my heart and turned the tide.
One lovely autumn day.
My daddy came to seem me then
And washed my guilt away.

Imprisoned by the lack of love
Forgiveness set me free
It was the key that opened doors
To things God meant to be.

In just a while, I gave my heart
To Jesus as my King.
A bird set free to grieve no more
A song of praise I sing.

My daddy’s gone to be with God.
My life has been made new.
God restored what once was lost
Fresh as morning dew.

Author’s note:
We do not realize how unforgiveness keeps us in a prison. When my father forgave this rebellious child, he released me to receive God’s love and forgiveness. That was 35 years ago. In the process of time we sang together as a family in churches giving our testimony in many places. When my dad got cancer, those five years began a bonding like no other, for the man who was my step-father became my daddy as he said, “My daughter, pray for me.” Incidentally I have been in many countries teaching and preaching the love of God. I also have been in Christian education for 20+ years.
How many lives would have not been touched if he had not forgiven me?
