It was the most gruesome, horrific, barbaric, palpable, ignoble and dastardly death you could die. Yet it was entertainment to some people. It was customary that each year one criminal be freed as a goodwill gesture. There was a debate as to who was more deserving and the people unanimously preferred Barabas, a notorious criminal, to Jesus.

Although Jesus was no criminal, He was treated like one, if not worse. He had done no wrong. All He did was tell them where He came from, His mission in life and it caused a such furore, resentment, bitterness, intense hatred of unimaginable proportions.

Those who had yelled raucously in euphoria not long ago, ’Hosanna, hosanna, blessed is that comes in the name of the Lord, quickly changed their tune to, ”Crucify him, crucify him. Away with this blasphemer!”

Those who were dumb, who He healed could now speak and pour scorn on Him, some of the lame that He made to walk had springs in their steps, gallivanting as they hurled abuses on Jesus. The blind that recovered their sight from His touch wanted to see this show badly without a whisper of prayer for His pardon or release. Yet this was the very Creator of All. In the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God. In Him was life and the life was the light of men. Through Him all things were made and without Him was not made anything that was made He had the power to command legions of angels to come to His rescue. But He refused the soft, easier option, hence He was committed to the will of His Father. He knew He was born to die.
He came to His own but His own rejected Him. It was as if He was helpless.

Yet it was the grand design of the Father Satan thought He had conquered, he thought he had won, but little did he know that he played into the hands of the Father. ‘By this shall my righteous Servant justify many’ The sinless was to become sin that He mighty take away the sin the world.

And so He made Himself of no reputation, abandoned His seat in glory obeyed the Father.
After suffering the horrible death and making the perfect sacrifice, the righteous demands of a just God were satisfied. Satan had bruised His heels but He had crushed his head. The keys that Adam had delivered to Stan, Jesus clinched back. He spoiled principalities and power and made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them through the cross. Dominion lost was regained. 0n the third day, He rose again as the stone was rolled away. The grave could not hold Him. Mary went to the graveside and found an angel there. She was distraught. ‘Where have you laid my Lord she inquired’ but the angel replied, ’Look not for the living among the dead. He is not here. He is risen just like He said. Jesus himself self said in Revelation, ‘Behold I am He that was dead, but now I’m alive and alive for evermore.

And because he conquered death when He rose again those would believe in Him have eternal life, the God-kind of life, Zoe. We are made partakers of the divine nature. Heaven is our home. God is our Father. And we can sing the songs of the redeemed. Alleluia!

Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the Law. Abraham’s blessings are ours. No curse causeless can stand. The cross of Jesus had cancelled every written code of regulations opposed to us. He nailed them to the cross. We can go free- set free for freedom to the glory of God!
