Tender Moment

One evening in the Fall of 1979 when Mario, our son, was just 4 years old, I went to the study sat down in the lazy boy chair, turned on the lamp, and began paging through anthropology notes in preparation to teach a Monday class. Soon I was rocking and humming Antonin Dvorak’s “Largo” of the Symphony No. 9 better known as the “New World Symphony”. For reason unknown to me, I suddenly got one of those feelings that I was being watched. Looking around, I saw Marion staring at me from the crack in the doorway.

“Come on in, son!” I said. “Anything wrong?”

“No,” he said. “I just wanna be with you, dad.”

He came in and with a boyish smile on his face then just sat down next to me in the lazy boy while I continued to look over my notes. Within minutes he was asleep in my presence. What a joyful feeling for me then and now!

There are moments when I feel this way about God. I often times slip into the presence of God, not because I want something, not because I’m hurting or in trouble. But simply because I want to be with Him and know His majesty! I want to be near the unconditional love and revel in all that Jesus Christ is!

Those who know God will have these moments. Those who want such a moment can have it simply by coming through the door of uncertainty and doubt then ask the Lord for an audience. He will never refuse you or your presence—EVER!

Do you need a tender moment in God’s presence this day? Go in He’s waiting for you right, this very moment! Don’t worry how you look! Just come as you are!!!
