We finally get up to the mountain, and unload everything we need to. I start helping my father set up the tent, and put all the plastic little pegs around where they were supposed to be, on each corner, and the other places to anchor it to the ground. The mountain, is virtually rock, and my ingenious father forgets his hammer. We have to shove these plastic pegs into a rock with nothing but our bare hands. Hey, when in doubt, improvise!

The next day, all 6 of us went hiking the waterfalls. My dad, in his wisdom, tied a clothesline around all of our waists, thinking that if one of us falls, then all of us will, or something to that effect. My brother (the accident prone one) takes off running, forcing the rest of us to run along with him. This particular spot where my brother had this stroke of genius was directly above the 94 foot waterfall, with nothing but a tree to block our descent. If you've ever seen a steer get lasso'd then you have a pretty good idea what it looked like from our end. My dad caught up to Aaron, yanked on the clothesline holding him to us and watched as his hands and feet flew forward while the rest of him jerked back. it kind of looked like a human yo-yo or a bungee cord horizontal.

We get back to the tent just before it starts a torrential downpour that wasn't that common for the time of year.

Finally, after an exhaustive week of rain and mud, and being scared by snakes and bears, we decide to pack up all of our stuff, when we realize we can't get the tent down. Everything else is in the van, including the younger 3 kids, and finally my mother and I decided that it was just easier to fold up the tent, shove it in ontop of the rest of the camping equipment, and head for home.

I often look back on that little misadventure and it reminds me of our relationship with God and how he gives us obstacles to overcome to make us better people. His wisdom is beyond compare, and it just reminds me of the little saying "that which does not kill us, can only make us stronger". Apparently he's never eaten pineapple encrusted ants.
