Abraham was blessed beyond his years.
The Lord had promised him a son,
And at last he had appeared.
The Lord came back to ask him
If it was God he feared,
Take his only son and sacrifice him there.

(Chorus)
Keep your Isaac on the alter,
A living sacrifice -
A heart of true humility,
And the cross upon your mind.
Relinquish as the owner;
Do not withold his life.
Trusting your Provider,
Offer up your son to die.

The same is now required here of me
The removal of my hand from things
Considered treasures, and my dreams.
The Lord comes near to ask me
If it is God I fear,
Take my "Isaac" to the alter and sacrifice him there.

(Chorus)
Keep your Isaac on the alter,
A living sacrifice -
A heart of true humility,
And the cross upon your mind.
Relinquish as the owner;
Do not withold his life.
Trusting your Provider,
Offer up "your son" to die.

At times a ram may be caught in the thicket nearby,
and I see God provide.
But even when He doesn't, can I trust Him enought to know
He's still in control -
With my hands off, be satisfied to allow my "Isaac"
to remain the sacrifice?

All to Jesus, I surrender.
All to Him I freely give.

(Chorus)
I'll Keep my Isaac on the alter,
A living sacrifice -
A heart of true humility,
And the cross upon my mind.
Relinquished as the owner;
I will not withold his life.
Trusting my Provider,
I offer up "my son" to die.

(a song I wrote in response to what God's been teaching me)

Genesis 22:12 . . . for now I know that you fear God, seeing as how you have not withheld your son, your only son from me.

What is your "son" - a most prized posession, a desire, a dream, a longing - the question I ask myself, "Am I willing (even if God does not provide a lamb) to sacrifice my 'son' on the alter of worship to my God? Is He worth that much in my eyes? Do I fear Him?"
