My Heavenly Father,
are You proud of me?
I know You love me,
for you sent your only son to die
so I could be free from the bondage of sin.
But are You proud of me?
Are You proud of me when I am
nice to my co-workers, when I drop money
in the offering plate? Are You proud of me
because I am faithful to my wife, forsaking
all others? Maybe You are proud of me
when I do a good job in the church play,
when I hit every note correctly while
singing that solo.
What makes Your heart swell
with joy, makes You look down
and say “That is my boy,
in whom I am well pleased.”
I know You have said those words
to Your first Son, so I think
I will try to be more like Him. Then,
with my heart like Yours,
I know You will be proud of me.
