Larry Lilly's Letter Wednesday March 29, 2006

Paul Beatty a young pastor who suffered a mild blockage related heart attack last week told a few stories that I found very insightful and hopefully enlightening to you as they were to me. I will share one with you today and the other when it has been long enough for Paul to have forgotten that it is his story.

Some years ago on The Fearless Mice Farm, ran by a Mrs. Fanny Fearless a tiny mouse was born into the world. As the genetic programming determined, the mouse was white. As soon as he was able, he was packed into a tiny crate with a few other white mice and shipped off. Each of the mice was assured by the other mice that their soon dispatch to their life work was due to their color. White mice enjoy a position of privilege, as every white mouse knows instinctively.

When they arrived at their destination each tiny white mouse was placed in a separate cage with a huge Python. Each mouse thought there must be some mistake and began to complain as loud as tiny white mice could complain about their predicament and insisted there must an enormous mistake. Our little friend, nicknamed Freddy Fearless, was terrified at the sight of the Python in his cage. He tried to let the keeper know there must be a mistake as even village idiots know that mice, even White Mice do not get along well with Pythons.

Freddy was the smartest of the lot, so when the other cages where quiet Freddy, fearing the worst, began to scoop piles of saw dust onto the coiled Python sleeping in a corner of the cage. Using his superior intellect and eye hand skills Freddy was able to completely cover the Python in short order.

With the Python covered and out of site, Freddy began to calm down and was able to eat a little food. Soon he was able to doze off and thought "If I keep the Python covered with sawdust all will be well."

A day or so later Freddy fulfilled his life purpose and the Python went back to his land of reptilian dreams of mice, rabbits and perhaps even a Siamese Cat.

Certainly my article is not about Freddy, a Python or a rant about the food chain. It is a rant (beat you to it) about the futility of attempting to cover your problems and falsely hoping they will stay covered. You should live so long. Pythons, sins and problems will out and each will swallow you unless you deal with each realistically.

I guess you could call the pound to come and remove the Python. Or if the Python belongs to your neighbor you could take an axe handle to your neighbor. Problems can be worked out but not covered. And sin?

Sin is removed by your agreeing with God about the nature of the sin and the application of the blood of Christ. When we are covered by the blood of Christ, this removes the sin and we are forgiven. We can then enjoy the peace that passes understanding.
