Larry Lilly’s Letter Friday March 24, 2006

In the long ago I was held in awe by some younger preachers and I admit to enjoying the adulation. Actually I had fun with it, for as my dear Great Blonde oft reminded me, “I did in fact put my pants on one leg at a time.” It would have been easier then and a god send now to just float and put them on both legs at a time.

As I was packing to leave for a meeting as we call it, the phone rang and a younger preacher talked with me about the upcoming meeting at his church. This particular preacher was tremendously impressed with himself, or as they say in the South, hisself. His infatuation with himself was good due to the fact that no one who knew him at all was the least bit impressed with him.

As we talked he inquired as to how he should treat me while I was laboring in his fiefdom. I took undue advantage and instructed him to ‘Treat me as you would any other King.’

The Bible does say in Revelation 1:6 and 5:10 that because of Christ we who believe are made Kings and Priests unto our God. An understanding of this truth helps in understanding how we should treat each other in all matters of this life.

We are not rival kings and to act as though we are is a mistake and the cause of unbelief among those who are not saved. It is not encouraging to watch kings and priests act as if they were mere barroom brawlers and foul mouthed drunkards.

When we learn to treat each other as the entities we really are a new day will dawn in Christendom.

The Bible is not given to wasting words and when it proclaims believers in Christ to be subjects of a royal nation, it means exactly that. Yet we are not to conduct ourselves as do the ‘Crowned Heads of The World’ but rather as servants of the Most High.

We are called Kings because we have earthly material responsibility to our Lord, to our family, to the saints and to our country. A person who is derelict in any of these areas is considered to be reprobate concerning the faith.

We are called Priests because in addition to our responsibility as Kings, we have heavenly responsibilities, to worship the Lord in spirit and truth, to obey Him, to instruct those to whom we owe the discharge of responsibilities in material things, also in the things eternal.

We are unusual as Kings and Priests go in that we are not here to be served, but as our King of Kings, to serve those whom we impact that we might lift to a higher life materially and spiritually. We should get off our High Chair and get with it. Today.
