I'll Be a Friend To Jesus!

Do you remember that song? Something happened this week to bring it back to me. Then
I started thinking about Abraham being a friend to God.

James 2:23(KJV) the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it
was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.
Jesus said in St. John 15:14 (KJV) Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command
you.
The Word doesn't tell us just how Abraham first met God, but he believed all God told
him. Abraham began to follow God's instructions, looking for a place God was going to
give him and his descendents. Day after day traveling with all his earthly goods, setting
up camp for a while then moving on. Would you like to travel like that not knowing
where or how long the trip would take? Abraham just kept on doing whatever God said.
Oh, he was human and became a little impatient waiting for the promised son. His
impatience is still having an effect on the world today. Yet, after Isaac was born and God
told Abraham to offer up Isaac as a sacrifice, he didn't argue, he loaded up the donkey
and headed out to do God's bidding.

Would you have questioned that as being God speaking? Abraham didn't, he prepared
to do what God had asked.
Proverbs 18:24(KJV) A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a
friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

Have you gotten discouraged with someone because they only called on you when they
were in need of something? It can be very disappointing, you can try your hardest to be a
friend, then you realize one day if you don't make the effort the other party won't. You
give it a test. You decide to wait for their move and nothing happens. It's as though you
are completely forgotten. Doesn't make you feel too good does it?

How do you think God feels when his children never call on him until they need his help?
He does have emotions, we are made in His image, He gave us emotions. That means He
also has emotions. The Bible tells of God's anger in (Ex. 32:10 KJV) when the golden
calf was made, and in several other places. His pleasure is noted in the creation.
( Genesis 1:10 KJV) I am sure He is unhappy when His children don't take time for Him just
because they are busy and all is well.

Heavenly Father, forgive our lack of thoughtfulness for your feelings. Please, help us to
remember, You are our friend if we obey Your commandments. You are ready to help in
the time of need, but You desire to share the good days with us too.
Father, we would like to be Your friend. Please teach us how to be a friend that sticks
closer than a brother.
