Use praise as a bulwark against fear

We all feel fear at times. When uncertainty surrounds our job, our marriage or relationships, it is hard to get answers about an illness, things are going on in the world we may not understand or agree with. The balance we try to maintain in our lives is upset for one reason or another, and we tend to fear instead of taking other measures.

King Jehosophat, in the book of Chronicles in the Bible, had a problem. Several nations were coming against his army and they were vastly outnumbered, just as we feel sometimes when life piles up on us.

The nation of Israel had just come back to the Lord and repented of their sins, so God had restored their fellowship with Him. Now what was the king going to do about this vast army arrayed against him? How could he win? Can you imagine the fear he must have felt? He was responsible for all these people. He had to have an answer.

He decided to put a choir at the head of his army. God told him if he would do this, they would not have to fight. So he obeyed, and the enemy began fighting against themselves. None of the Israelites had to fight and none were injured or killed because they had put praise ahead of logic. It certainly was not logical to do this, but God wanted to show this king and nation that He was in control, and if they would obey He would fight for them.

We have this choice in our lives as well. We can try to figure out a way to do something for ourselves or we can take it to God to help us with His answers. When we focus on praising God in the midst of our problems, we are acknowledging His power to accomplish what we cannot. We don't like to be powerless, but sometimes we are. We are limited in what we know and can do, but God is limitless. When we trust Him, we will see answers where there were none before. Let go, and let God accomplish His will in your problems. You will see answers that you never dreamed were possible, if you do.

Dan,
I sent this to my sister for I feel that this will encourage her. It lifted my spirits.
