I have a routine when I get up in the morning. I have to sit on the
edge of the bed and do some stretching of my left leg. If I don't,
my left knee gives way, and I fall.

We all have routines of some type or another -- some necessary,
some just out of habit, and some that may be downright silly. We
saw a lady in a restaurant yesterday who apparently had a bacteria
phopia. She cleaned everything on the table and even put a
napkin underneath herself and on the chair next to her before she
placed her bag on the chair. Cleanliness seemed to control her
life.

Routines can bring important order to our lives, but they can get
to the point where they control our existence. A truly organized
person will have routines to maintain their life in a timely order
without wasted motion. Others who are less organized will go all
directions at once and accomplish little. A PA Dutch saying is,
"The hurrier we go, the behinder we get!" We need some order in
our lives.

We need to make sure that we don't develop routines in our
spiritual life so that we do things by rote without giving much
thought to the process. We need to keep our Christianity fresh
and not let it get routinely stale. Matt. 6:7 says, "When you pray,
use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that
they shall be heard for their much speaking." Vain repetitions
can apply to a lot more than praying. Analyze yours and keep
your faith fresh.
