Lets talk about Softspeak. Softspeak is the art of saying nothing about something important while your mouth is moving in apparent comment concerning a subject you intensely wish would go away.

This word has come to mind while reading the many Oatmeal with brown sugar and raisins comments from major players in the militant segment of faith on sexuality and marriage when the, dare I say it, 'End of The Spear' and its star, Chad Allen is mentioned. No roar of the lion, but a meek whisper.

Many in the country are doing the 'Softpeak' now that Samuel Alito is Justice Samuel Alito of The United States Supreme Court.

Softspeak can be practiced by dodging the subject or by giving an answer that you are certain is politically correct. Such was the answer of a Senior Computer Science Major at our local university. Ladies, you really should talk to your sister on this one:

"I have mixed feelings. His political outlook only appeals to a certain group of Americans, instead of all."

Is it Mr. Limbaugh who describes such people as having warm oatmeal for a brain?

I hope someone can find our little sister Computer Science major and inform her that even the much loved Hillary Clinton does not appeal to all Americans. Such is the shame of the segmented America we have become.

I admit to laughing out loud when I read the above piece in the University Newspaper. The paper even had the poor creature's photo and her name. In a rare demonstration of Christian charity I refrain from giving either the photo or the name. I can imagine the poor child will have to listen to the wail of her parents when they vociferously wonder why on earth they are wasting tuition money.

Truth be known, we all make boo boo's in our daily speech. I thank the good Lord that several of my regular readers help me to correct spelling and grammar in these daily offerings. One such is the dear, ruler wielding, knuckle busting Luc Bridgewater, retired Guardian of Grammar, who also helps in prison ministry. May God bless her.

I could not help but think of the many clergypersons I know who work hard at being the kind of boy/girl or combination that our local Senior Computer Science Major is looking for.

I hope that I am like my daughters little dog, Tucker. Tucker is an 8Lb Miniature Long Haired Dappled Dachshund with an attitude. Tucker steps out into the world and seems, by stance and the slight tilt of the head to say, at least with body language, "World, here I am. Adjust." Not a bad attitude for a Supreme Court Justice or a clergyperson.
