How Can You Tell When Your Faith Is For Real?

This question is one that is loaded for bear. I attend church. I am a good person. I read my Bible. I believe in Jesus. Does this demonstrate my faith?

The answer, while not an easy one in the eyes of man, is complicated to the point that we are not capable of understanding the full and total perspective from the confines of our Church home. In order to find the answer, you must first understand the meaning of faith. This is easily answered in scripture when Jesus healed the servant of a Roman soldier. He came to Jesus and asked, knowing without a doubt, that if Jesus said the word, that his servant would be healed. The soldier didn’t ask how Jesus was going to do it, nor did he question if it could be done. That soldier demonstrated the purist form of faith. His entire heart was devoted to knowing the Jesus would heal his servant.

This is the faith of a mustard seed, able to move mountains. That kind of faith can accomplish the impossible. Know and accepting in something with your whole heart is the foundation of faith. This is without question. Now, how do we apply it to current day life?

Attending church, following God’s directives, reading scripture, and believing in Jesus are only part of what Christians are supposed to do. God never intended for us to keep these attributes for ourselves but to use them for His Glory. We are commanded to fulfill the Great Commission by the very God we worship. We cannot do this attending church or just sticking to ourselves. We must take this valuable knowledge and spread it like a fire across the land, air, and sea. No living creature should ever live without this knowledge.

How can we tell when our faith is real? Many Christians answer this question by how the Christian world perceives them. Often the answer is how a pastor or elder reacts to them or by the accomplishments within the confines of a Christian environment. This makes us warm and fuzzy inside and gives us a false sense of security in how much faith we have, but more often enough describes how stagnant we are as Christians. God didn’t intend for Christianity to be a social gathering for His believers.

If you want to know how real your faith is you need look no further than people around you. I am not talking about believers who have an obligation to lift you up. I am talking about people who don’t know Jesus. The non-believers, the sinners, the poor, and/or the unknowledgeable are the people who can answer this loaded question.

Take a good, hard, honest look at yourself. Are non-believers asking you, or other people, about your faith? If they are, you are shining a light in a world of darkness. You are giving them a chance to stand on steady ground. You are planting the seed that will produce fruit. You are fulfilling your obligation to God the Father.

Many Christians are content with the accolades of Christian associates. But real faith is not in the way you act at church. You can fulfill the Great Commission without saying a word. You can plant the seed by just demonstrating your faith everyday in the presents of non-believers. You can be a missionary in your community just by ensuring that people realize that your faith is uncompromising. You must take that faith out of that jar and sprinkle it on everyone you come in contact with throughout the week. When non-believers start asking question, you are demonstrating real faith in this world. Your purpose is being served.
