Larry Lilly's Letter Thursday December 8, 2005

While the 'be sure not to hurt anyone's feelings except Christians' movement is sweeping our country, in order to prepare the Sheeple for one world religion and government, I, yours truly think the whole idea is totally unfair. The Hanukahs, Kwanzas and Libertines, have left out two pseudo deities in the boycotts etc.

I hear no mention of The Beatles, who made claim to being more popular than Jesus, and there is nary a word about Jolly Old Saint Nicholas, known in our clime as Santa. I think Santa is Spanish for Saint. I have a darker interpretation, but I will settle for Spanish for now.

Why no articles on the encroachment of Santa and The Beatles into the sacred ground dividing religion from the state. While manger scenes are banned, Beatles 'music' plays in the background. Even these specimens knew that spending money at Christmas could not buy love. While the religion 'Beatle Mania' may have not as yet reached Moonie numbers, just try suggesting that there wasn't something divine about The Beatles and you have a war on your hands. Yet, I hear no outraged cry from congress to hush the fuss about the British Insects. What if it is discovered that the President is secretly in bed with this imported philosophy? Surely our constitution bans the Beatles as well as the Christian religion.

I think that Christmas is such a dangerous issue due to the fact that so many tired and weary pilgrims from other lands have come here with there own religion and are offended that somehow people who believe in the truth of Christ, even if they do not subscribe to the current emphasis of the celebration, have piggy backed on said belief that Jesus Christ is God in flesh, Immanuel, God with us, into the grandest nation in history, and have propelled ordinary people to a height of personal freedom undreamed of in ancient times. This freedom is only whispered about in other political persuasions today around the globe.

The most wicked ruler of the ancient world, Herod, envisioned that he would be displaced if in fact the child of Bethlehem was born a king. Herod knew of messianic prophesies which had imparted the inextinguishable fire of hope into the heart of the people he, with the aid and good blessing of the Roman Army kept under their totalitarian heel. In order to preserve his kingdom against the rightful ruler, he ordered what is called the Slaying of the Innocents, the murder of male children under the age of two years.

Could it be that Christ, presented in such an unbiblical package as the modern celebration of Christmas is still so powerful as to condemn our lifestyles? Our innate selfishness? The widely embraced practice of trying buy love and loyalty with a lump sum gift once per year?

I must say in defense of Christmas that many churches are trying to remove the sting of Christmas by canceling worship services in order for the families to have time together, which translates into more time to get to the malls to exchange received gifts for gifts wanted. Surely this acquiescence to the idea of separation of church and state will allay the fears of the unwashed masses that Jesus intends on taking over our lives. Billy Graham and all such preachers have done a great disservice to Jesus by making statements such as 'turn your life over to Jesus.' Common Men and Women know that both they and Jesus cannot rule their life, and they do not want to be reminded that there is a higher life than that of living for yourself. Where did Billy and other clergypersons ever get the idea of 'turning your life over to Christ?' No wonder congress is upset.
