Larry Lilly's Letter Wednesday December 7, 2005

On this date in 1941 the media carried the story of the sneak attack on Pearl Harbor, the flagship naval base of the United States in the Pacific by the Empire of Japan. The attack was and is called a ‘sneak attack’ though our intelligence service of that time new as early as 1935 that the Japanese were planning the attack. Nonetheless the attack lives as our president said it would, in infamy. To say the attack changed the world is understatement.

An invasion from another world took place over two thousand years ago and it also changed the world and is still changing individuals who grasp the meaning of said invasion.

This armada of dramatic change was not wrapped in the latest armor, was not accompanied by a vast armada and no bombs were dropped. Yet the impact of this event cannot be measured.

Of course I speak of God's Son, Jesus Christ leaving the Ivory Palaces of Heaven and invading this world via the womb of The Virgin and making His initial appearance in the stable in Bethlehem. He was not wrapped in military might nor royal splendor, but swaddling clothes, said to be mere rags, as the family was in a real bind, due to as one little guy said, 'Some clerk misplaced their hotel reservations and there was a big game in town.' Ah, the children.

One of the principles established by this invasion by the child, as God made His statement, that all who want to can be delivered from the enemy of life and joy, an enemy called sin, is that a better world begins with better people and when Christ in His fullness is accepted, not only are the ones who accept made better people, but they, we, become sons of God through faith and by practicing the way of life taught to us by Jesus, the entire world really does become a better place, though we know this world as we know it is a temporary place, but still we make it better through the principle of demonstrating the power of Christ in our daily often numbingly ordinary life.

The Empire of Japan dreamed of a world that spoke the Japanese language, a world that submitted totally to it, and one that lived for its glory. We now know how cruel the inner working of that kingdom was as it allied itself with another racist Empire of evil.

The Kingdom of The Babe of Bethlehem taught a different way and when those early followers of His, born again, ran rampant over the terrain of the mightiest Empire of that or any other era, not with weapons of mass destruction, their commander, Jesus Christ had told them not to arm themselves, but with a message in their heart from Christ of a better, actually a new life, they in a few short years as history years go, turned the world of that time right side up. The early blood bought band had none of the tools we think are so necessary for evangelization. They had the power we need so desperately today, the total belief in His plan and the power of the Holy Spirit.
