I sometimes wonder if the twelve apostles KNEW that Jesus was God walking on this earth. I wonder if Mary really understood that she was mother to God. I wonder if the brothers and sisters of Jesus really believed that He is the great I Am.

As I sometimes look around the sea of faces on a Sunday morning at church, I cannot help but wonder how many of us really know and believe that Jesus is God, our Lord, our Savior, and our Salvation. He is the mighty Rock upon which we must build our foundation, the calm in a time of trouble, and our greatest friend and protector. The pastor’s sermon this week was about Jesus’ supernatural abilities, like walking on water and walking through walls. Both of these phenomenon are impossible for humans to do, yet Jesus performed each with ease. In Matthew 14:25-29, we read that Peter was commanded by Jesus to walk on the water. As long as Peter looked at Jesus, Peter had supernatural abilities. When Peter’s eyes wavered, he began to sink. In verse 31, Jesus asks, “why did you doubt?”

Do we, like Peter, have doubts?

In John 20:19-20, we read that Jesus appeared to the disciples who were “together, with the doors locked.” This indicates that Jesus either appeared in the midst of them or walked through the walls or door to be with the disciples. In this instance, the disciples were overjoyed upon seeing Jesus stand before them.

What would we do if Jesus suddenly appeared in front of us? Would we recognize Him? Would we be overjoyed and awed by His divine presence? Would we be too busy doing “church things” that we would not see Him at all?

We know that Jesus performed many miracles while walking on this earth. As told in John 21:25 “If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.”

The only book that we really need to read and understand is God’s book – the Bible. When we realize that the greatest miracle ever performed by Jesus was to die on the cross and grant us our salvation, we can perhaps begin to appreciate the magnitude of His majesty. “Great are the works of the LORD; they are pondered by all who delight in them” (Psalm 111:2).

Let us ponder – that is, focus, our thoughts on God this very day in order to better grasp who He is and what He has done for us.
