Roadblocks To Heaven

Hebrews 12:1
Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.

Roadblocks are barriers (fences, that bars advancement or access, obstacles
(impediments, hindrances, hurdles) on the road, obstacles are set by people that obstructs (block up, prevent, or retard growth or progress).

The heroes of faith before us had a race to run. They became champions because they stayed the course. This race is run by us doing something, not just sitting idly by doing nothing, not taking for granted that Heaven is ours. In preparing for a race we have to exercise. The exercises we do here is reading the word everyday, fasting and praying. Now because we have an adversary, the Devil, trying to stop us in our race, we face Roadblocks to Heaven.

We will learn:
1. What are roadblocks?
2. What are the roadblocks we face?
3. How to get pass those roadblocks.
4. Getting on the right road and staying there.

Isaiah 35:8
And a highway shall be there and a way, and it shall be called the way of holiness, the unclean shall not pass over it, but it shall be for those, the wayfaring men, though fools shall not err therein.

Your road, highway, street, avenue or whatever your road is called, God calls it a highway of Holiness. Jesus has prepared the pavement smooth for us, but the Devil is the obstructer, he sets barriers and traps to block your way to Heaven.

This race is a race of faith, survival of the fittest, and you will find that only the strong survive.

Race - contest of speed between runners in this case we are racing, not swiftly but through endurance. It is a contest between persons to be first to achieve something. Our goal here is to reach Heaven, but there are prerequisites to getting there. A prerequisite is something required as a prior condition to something, just like in school when you can't take a 200 level class until you have already taken the 100 levels. Our race is not with another person however, but it's spiritual. Yet it is competition between God and Satan for our soul survival. We want our eternal home for our souls to be Heaven and not Hell.

Sometimes our race is a push when we have not fulfilled our purpose of being here. We waste a whole lifetime doing what we should not be doing, only to get to the end of our race and have to clam a lifetime work into a few days. Doing the time you are idle not serving your purpose, your life is so unfulfilled (empty). There is no true peace, joy, or happiness.

Run – move quickly, go hurriedly, briefly. Advance by or as by rolling or on wheels, or smoothly or easily, be in action or operation, be current or operative. To compete, finish, run its course, follow its natural progress. Sometime in running you may have to jump over some hurdles, you may have to step over something, your foot may get hung up on something or your feet may even get stuck in something, but just keep running.

Satan put roadblocks in our way to keep us from achieving our goal to make Heaven our home.

In Hebrews 12:1-2, we can't see, we follow the wrong witnesses (false prophets) the blind leading the blind. We are ensnared or caught up in them rather than looking for Christ. We look at the wrong things, what they have, look like or seem to be going rather than keeping our eyes on the prize, which is Jesus Christ.

On the Road to Heaven, we cross over some Roadblocks set to keep us bound. Let's go down the Roman Road and firstly receive Salvation.

Romans 5:20
Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound.

Sin abounding in our lives is a roadblock. It keeps God's best from us and it keeps us bound up. In the world there are laws that says once you have done something wrong it will follow you the rest of your life, but God is a deliverer and a forgiver of all sin. We have to loose the sin in our lives where we can begin our road to Heaven.

Romans 6:1
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?

Sin continued means we are taking advantage of God's grace and this proves to be a roadblock to your growth and success.

Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Our failure to realize that the wages of sin is death is a roadblock. Without seeing the sin in you and getting forgiveness not only from God, but yourself keeps your mind bound and your thinking is messed up.

Ephesians 4:26
Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath.

Anger is a roadblock because sometime it keeps us with bitterness and we wont have forgiveness in our hearts and the sun will go down on our wrath rather than get that thing right and go on with God. The longer he can keep you angry, the longer he keeps you from seeing God and you think you are alright.


John 5:14
Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, behold thou art made whole: sin no more; let a worse thing come upon thee.

A go back spirit is a roadblock. No matter how many times Jesus delivers you, you find yourself returning to the thing you have been delivered from. To overcome this spirit, you have to remember that Jesus has delivered you and continue to say no to it. After being made whole, you go back and sin allowing a worse thing to come. Your sin is judged because to him that knows that he should do good, and do it not, it is sin. You are allowed a mistake, but the soul that willfully sin shall die.

John 8:10-11
When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? Hath no man condemned thee?

She said, no man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

Condemnation is a roadblock. Sometime we are the ones condemned and sometimes we are the condemner. Condemnation of our sisters and brothers is sin. Jesus delivers you and says sin no more, but Satan keeps our eyes on our sisters and brothers and we can't see God for seeing them. You ought to see God in somebody other than yourself. We must make a commitment not to judge each other, but sin.

I John 3:9
Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

Sin that has not been repented has not been committed unto the Lord so it's a roadblock that keeps you from being born of God. This will definitely keep you off the right road to Heaven.

I Corinthians 14:9
So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken, for ye shall speak into the air.

Speaking amiss is a roadblock. We talk too much about nothing. It does not edify, instruct, encourage, or cause any progress on the road to Heaven. We speak amiss, we don't have understanding, so we don't understand what it is we need to speak. We need to speak the Word, but we can't speak what we don't know. We won't pick our Bible up and read to find the mind of Christ.

James 3:17
But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.

Meanness is a roadblock. We are to mean sometime to receive the things we need from God to apply to our lives. Meanness keeps you from hearing when someone is trying to teach you something that may bring riches to your life, but you can't receive or hear it.

We carry around weights, heaviness, loads, or burdens, millstones around our necks and pressures. Many things come to weigh us down. These weights are roadblocks to Heaven. You see sin started in Heaven with Lucifer, whom God had kicked out of Heaven and his goal is to keep you from going there. He got kicked out because he was lifted up in pride, vain glory, puffed up, in other words he got the big head. This is why he sets roadblocks for us either in the lusting of the eye, lusting of the flesh or the pride of life. He messes with our emotions, he tries to destroy our devotion to God, and when you want to get straight, the struggle may be too much for you. You become a walking dead man or woman and your life is producing nothing that matters. To give life you must have life in you. The spirit of God in you, is what produces life to others, it's not you. But we have killed the spirit in us through yielding to the pull of Satan. He takes us out of our set place with these roadblocks. We must overcome his pull, his influence, his lures, and his seductions. Pride is the first thing he uses, his subtitility of satanic ability. Look how he got one third of the angels in Heaven to follow him and they were already in Heaven with God.

His source of roadblocks is a bad spirit and the severity of that spirit let you stay that way. If you tolerate something, you wont change it, and will end up loving it. Our solution to this roadblock to reach where God wants us is to accept salvation and all that goes with it. When you have found salvation in Jesus you can be set free. He is the immediate solution. When you put on Christ, you pull forward away from these roadblocks through total obedience to the Word of God.

Pull off the sin and weight that come to beset you, anger wrath, blasphemy, malice, filthy communication out of you mouth, lying, jealousy, envy, strife, lack of knowledge, and anything else that carry you out of God's will. Cross over these roadblocks by putting on Christian virtues. Colossians 3:12-17 says we should put on holiness, have bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering, fore bear one another, forgiveness of one another, charity (love), peace of God in your heart, be thankful, gentle and live righteously.

You made a vow to the Lord, forsake the forbidden fruit, if God say no, what part of no don't you understand, just obey. Touch not, taste not, feel not, see not or hear not. We make God sick when we don't truly repent our sin and quit doing them. If you want your soul to come home to Jesus, consider where your soul is today. God loves the soul of man. Stop seeking wrong and seek what is right.

Forsake your disobedient nature and obey them that have the rule over you spiritually and naturally. God has order. Reach a new dimension higher than what you see.

Be transfigured. Everybody should not be able to figure you out by just looking at you. You've made a turn and they should see the change. Take a new direction, don't remain the same going the wrong direction.

Don't give up or give in, push through each roadblock. Sometime it may be a storm, but see Jesus in the storm and he will bring you out rejoicing.

No turning back, get a push for Jesus in your spirit, say I made a vow to the Lord and I won't turn back. Don’t let these roadblocks cause you to miss walking into your season. You cannot walk into your season until you learn to run well. The race is not given to the swift, nor the strong, but to them that endures all the way to end, the same shall be saved. Walk slowly, but run well.
