Holy Father of Spirits,
And Ancient of Days,
May the things of Your heart,
Matter more to me,
Than my own flesh and life.

Impress upon me,
And teach me, Lord,
The very fear of God,
To set me free from self,
Separated unto You, my King.

You show me, Father,
Your exuberant joy,
You delight in Yourself,
You're the very God of gods,
You delighted in making us.

You are crushed by sin,
As a spouse is crushed,
By an unfaithful partner,
As a dying child is crushed,
Knowing his days are very few,
As a friend is grieved,
Over broken trust.

As the Son crying out,
"My God, My God,
Why have You forsaken Me?"

Yet we are Yours forever,
We remain before You.
You will not turn away,

May the things of Your heart,
Matter more to me,
Than my own flesh and life.
