SATAN’S RADAR

Any good devotional should open up to the highways of our mind, new and inspired quests. They should send the inquisitive on a search for a deeper understanding or acknowledgement of what they are written about. I have just completed one by spiritual creator Ron Hutchcraft.

I want to share with you some of the colourful insightfulness of this man as he continues to carry out God’s command. It is called “How Good Soldiers Go Down” and appears in his column called A Word With You. It is written and based on Ephesians 6, the eleventh verse. We will all undoubtedly remember that this is the chapter that deals with the protection of the full amour of God.

I am inspired to write this today because a supervisor at my workplace showed me a new addition to the family of rubber band bracelets that has swept over this part of the country. Adding to the infamous yellow “Livestrong” inspired by Lance Armstrong’s encouraging battle with cancer and with the blue, “Life is a Team Sport”, supporting the fight of bone marrow issues, he wore a black one with the name “Godstrong” on it followed by the verses from Ephesians 6. So the seemingly innocent vehicle of a new bracelet now has turned into a search for this truth.

I am sure Mr. Hutchraft will allow me to paraphrase him as I try to make my point. Ron suggests that in part, “if we were, or had any hope of being effective for Jesus, we already were on hell’s radar”. I thought that was so cool, to take the whole concept to this level, to think there are legions of demonic individuals lurking somewhere over radar screens. Their faces and shapes bathed in scarlet and red that signifies the devil’s radar. There is a hideous sound as they monitor the path of your ministry. Hissing and growling, your journey is plotted while they concoct their strategies. What is happening in your life right now? What earth folks and earth issues are you struggling with? As the author describes, “a lot of what you are encountering right now are, at their core, spiritual attacks conceived in hell.”

What does YOUR list include? What are the spiritual attacks on your life? Remember that God knows what they are, for there is nothing hidden from Him. Do they include greed, jealousy or envy? Does deceit create a web of entanglement from which you cannot emerge? Does fear or mistrust rule your relationships or is forgiveness just beyond your grasp?

It is implied that the Satanic Strategy you are supposed to withstand is the devil’s effort to take back the ground God has gained in your life. Your enemy is trying to pressure and attack and tempt you to retreat to the old you, to old ways of thinking and coping and responding and treating people, to get you to doubt during this dark time what God told you in the light. And again and again, God says, "Do not give ground. Do not retreat. Defy the attack!"

These six declarations defy the very things Satan always uses to get you to retreat - your deceit, unclean input, worry, fear, trusting in something other than the cross, and believing your feelings. Using the armor of God offers a level of protection that cannot be defeated, anywhere, anytime or by any entity. It is guaranteed to keep you safe from the swirling cesspool of stuff satan has in store for you.
