Agree To Disagree


In this world you find that it is a common thing for two people to disagree. It would be, I am sure wonderful to have everyone in agreement all of the time. How boring could that be? We as a people in general saved or unsaved will even disagree to agree. We can’t agree to disagree. We can never say the next person is right. We in our own self-conceited ways will never admit that we were wrong. Agree means to hold a similar opinion, consent, become or be in harmony, be good for, suit. To concur, see eye to eye, be as one, concede, conform, or harmonize. To disagree means to hold a different opinion, quarrel, not correspond, have an adverse effect upon. Dissent, diverge, dispute, argues, discrepancy, opposition or debate.

Sometime when we disagree we get rude, ugly, or bad tempered. Be put up on the offensive stand, we are distasteful, disgusting, repulsive, not objective, uncooperative, unfriendly, curt, grouchy, and discourteous. We lose our glow and we aren’t emitting the light of Christ. When we are not flaming the passion of Christ we get into debate over what’s already written therein in the Word of God. Christians has a strong habit that they have to prove themselves right. We are heating the wrong fire. When we do not learn to do as Matthews 5:25 says, agree with thine adversary quickly, while thou are in the way with him, lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge and the judge deliver you to the officer and thou be cast into prison. Then you yourself, once an adversary, now a Christian, an opponent to the law, need to be reconciled to the enemy because it’s to your advantage if he disagrees with you and you are with him. The Lord will speak against you. God set Israel apart to bring her in covenant relationship with himself. In Amos 3:3, he asked, can two walk together except they be agreed? If two would agree on anything touching the earth, anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my father, which is in Heaven.

Jesus handled many disagreements, but with understanding. Sometime we argue and we don’t know what we are disagreeing about, or even understand why we are disagreeing. We have to agree to disagree and respect the next person’s ideology. We don’t have to except what they say but we can leave it alone.

From the beginning God dealt with disagreements. Adam didn’t disagree with Eve when she brought him the forbidden fruit and said for him to eat, he just ate. He knew what God had said concerning the tree in the midst of the garden, not to eat of it. Even if he disagreed with her concerning eating the fruit, now was the time to say so. Instead he chose to disobey what his creator had told him, seeing nothing had happened to Eve. From here sin was birth in the world and not agreeing to disagree was a thing of the past. He could have agreed with her that maybe it was good to eat, but God has forbidden that I eat of the tree.

Can we agree to disagree?
Can we respect each other’s opinions?
Can we accept what the Word say about our questions concerning things?

We need to separate our differences and see Jesus

Sometimes because we have differences with some one we will not witness of the truth for that person because our opinions were challenged. Jesus did no one any wrong but they agreed together to crucify him. Just because he challenged their ways, their traditions, their conditions in their lives, they failed to be a true witness. Jesus in Matthews 20:13, but he answered one of them and said, friends I do thee no wrong, didst not thou agree with a lie for a penny. Sometime people will agree with a lie for money. They will know they are lying but because of the filthy lucre they become filthy in their being. Then they don’t care whom they are lying on. These people went against Jesus, the Son of God himself, so what make you think they love you so much?

Mark 14:56-69 lets us know that many bare false witness against him, but there witness agreed not together, so neither did their witness agree together. Sometime people come against you and what they say don’t agree with what each other is saying about you. God will confound their language that they don’t understand what they are trying to do against you to the point that what they say don’t add up. That is why your response should be, they say, what they say, let them say, God will take care of all of it.
