I'm sure that some folks think that Grammar is the gal married to
their Grandpappy.

I know that some of you are or were English teachers. I wish you
would speak up and let me know when I goof and leave parsnips
or something dangling. I was fortunate to have an excellent H.S.
English teacher, but I wasn't as good a listener back then in the
last Millenium. I've forgotten more than I ever knew (?).

If you listen to TV, you'll be aware that you have also forgotten
more than some students have ever learned. I'm appalled at the
gross misuse of grammar, especially on shows like Judge Judy.
Even the learned judge says, "Can I" when she should be saying
"May I". However, the constant parade of life's misfits who
appear before her reveal an alarming disdain for proper grammar.

Of much greater discouragement is the apparent lack of Biblical
"smarts" on the part of professed Christians. Many only have a
peripheral knowledge because they just pick up occasional bits of
truth and information on those occasions when they actually
listen. The rest of the time they are singing up a storm and
blissfully clapping their way to Heaven. It's like only skimming
the front page headlines and saying "whoopee," I read the paper.

God's Word deserves more than a casual glance. It is God's
textbook for our life. Is it any wonder that so many lives are
messed up? There is little real knowledge of what God expects
from us. There is even less adherence to those principles.

Some important words from Joshua 1:8: "Study this book of the
law continually. Meditate on it day and night so you may be sure
to obey all that is written in it. Only then will you succeed."
