Written 9-19-05

By call from God
We left our home,
To go to those
From New Orleans fled;
In Houston now,
They sadly roam;
It was this
Our Father pled.

By divine grace,
We set about
To do what
He commanded;
To heal and comfort,
A heart-rent shout;
Satan’s ploy
We reprimanded.

With mundane task
Poured from our hands,
We supported
The tempest-tossed,
Thus showing
His glory stands;
It is His love
That is not lost.

We saw good come
From evil stain,
As the good God
Chose to step in,
As His children,
With love, came,
And grace abounded
In spite of sin.

And now we saw
We are like those,
The homeless
We have aided;
Much like Jesus,
Our Sharon’s Rose,
We’re not yet home,
As He rightly stated.


Author's Note: The poem is about my team's experience, as we went to help out those who were evacuated from New Orleans to Houston, from our church. We had 45 on our team that stayed in Houston for one week (9-11 to 9-17).
