Yesterday I mentioned hearing from my former boss. One of the
mementos he sent was an invoice for a service call I made at a
church in Manhattan. On the back of the invoice he wrote a note
reminding me of the prank I played on him.

I arrived home early from that call and called my boss. I
disguised my voice and said, "Is Mr. George there?" When he
said no, I said, "This is Mr. Hall from Convent Baptist Church,
and 15 minutes after Mr. George left, our organ went up in a
glorious cloud of smoke." His scared reaction caused me to
quickly reveal my identity and possibly save a heart attack. Both
of us have had good laughs over that and still do after almost 50
years. I know you'll find this hard to believe, but I used to be a
fun loving rascal -- still am.

Why am I telling this story? It's a reminder of the wonderful
sense of humor that I inherited from my Dad. 42 years later that
sense of humor played a huge role in helping me to deal with a
stroke and its debilitating effect on my formerly active life, and it
still does help.

A positive attitude is extremely important in dealing with any of
life's disappontments, but attitude alone is hardly enough. A
strong faith in the God that put our amazing bodies together is the
first step in developing a proper attitude. A faith-based attitude is
the best foundation for rebuilding a damaged life.

Rom. 14:17 & 18 (nlt) have important things to say about this.
"For the kingdom of God is not a matter of what we eat or drink,
but of living a life of goodness and peace and joy in the Holy
Spirit. If you serve Christ with this attitude, you will please
God." AMEN!
