Written 9-10-05

I store Your word in the secret place,
Always to reside with me;
I place my ear against Your heart,
And hear the beat of life.

My own soul bends and swells,
As I yield to what You say;
I find myself wanting more and more,
And seek with impassioned spirit.

All You have You have hidden,
To test those who will seek it;
As with gold and precious jewels,
Only the diligent become rich.

By Your Spirit, teach me fear,
Reverence for Your name;
Give me this, more than life,
For what is it without this security?

You alone know what cries within,
My words faintly reflect the real me;
Grant me this, or give me blindness,
Teach me this, or let me die.

My son, if you accept my words
and store up my commands within you,
turning your ear to wisdom
and applying your heart to understanding,
and if you call out for insight
and cry aloud for understanding,
and if you look for it as for silver
and search for it as for hidden treasure,
then you will understand the fear of the LORD
and find the knowledge of God.—Proverbs 2:1-5
