All the colors are condensed in a spark
of life, in a single stalk of new growth,
in a strand of wind that blows through the chord
of each hymn of praise. The hues of the stones,
hewed from the depth of memory, stay
blue and of varying whiteness; the tint
of glazed host from a cloistered brown
renews its grades from birth to birth.
All the colors are seen in a quickening
of rain, in stabs of fire, or in visits
of inspired faith that perceives the spectrum
of all that are contained in a vignette -
in the open apse where free airs exchange
ashen paleness for resurrected flame.
