Where do your hopes lie?
by Dan Langerock
Have you ever listened to yourself or others when they express hopes of their lives? Let's look at some of the things people articulate in the expression of these hopes:
I hope the war ends fast with good results.
I hope I get that job I applied for.
I hope the rent gets paid on time.
I hope Saddam Hussein goes into exile instead of war.
I hope I can do well on that test.
I hope no cancer is found when I go to the doctor.
I hope our soldiers will be safe.
I hope there are no more terrorist attacks.
These are all worthy things to be hoping for, but it also shows what thoughts are prevalent in our thinking. God is well aware of what we hope and dream about. He is waiting for us to trust Him with these ideas we have stored in our minds. Psalm 124:8 says it well, "Our help is from the Lord who made heaven and earth." God wants to be our help but also our hope. Our spiritual condition will help determine how we respond to the challenges of life. Where does your hope lie? Does it abide in the Creator of heaven and earth, and all that is seen or unseen?
