Encouragement
My dearest mother,
It is with many tears of thankfulness that I write this letter. I know it's Mother’s Day,but who ever said Mother’s Day could only be celebrated in May.
Within the last hour, I feel as though I have given every last giving fiber of my being to five small children, I have cleaned the same shirt for the fifth time this week, I have just loaded my dishwasher for the second time today, I have been to the grocery store three times so far this week with five children, because let’s face it, it’s hard to keep your sanity the first trip with five kids, I have wiped three butts in the last two hours, applied three bandades in the last hour, I am a one man pickup crew for six, especially today because we have been sick, if I could count the cups of water I have filled today, I’d have a pond in my backyard, ashamedly I’ve said no more than yes, and with the ounce of patience I had left, I managed to homeschool four little kids. When my husband comes home, I continue to give some more. Sometimes I wonder how we got stuck with the name mother and not giver!
My dearest Mother, Thank you for all the times you poured me a glass of water in the middle doing my dirty laundry. Thank you for putting a bandaide on my knee in the middle of cooking me dinner. Thank you for reading me a story when you needed to call a friend, Thank you for giving me devotions even at times when you didn’t feel close to God. Thank you for buying me a toy when you needed church shoes. Thank you for making my friends welcome when you were tired. Thank you for your tears and prayers, when you didn’t understand me. Thank you for all you did for me that I didn’t see you do. Thank you for being my mother, when you could’ve been a world-reknown salesperson or pianist.
And whosever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward. Matthew 10:42.
Your loving daughter.

This is a beautiful letter from a special lady to a special mum (sorry, mom). You've captured well the demands and chaos the mothers of children (especially young children) cope with day in and day out. And then you've gone deeper and realised that these same sacrifices were made on your behalf by your mother. The piece is thoughtful and creative, lighthearted and inspirational all in one. Well done.
