Objects of Mercy

Rudy and Stush are out in the woods hunting, when Rudy suddenly grabs his chest and falls to the ground. He doesn't seem to be breathing, and his eyes are rolled back into his head. Stush whips out his cell phone, dials 911, and gasps to the operator, "I think Rudy is dead! What should I do?"
The operator, in a calm and soothing voice, says, "Just take it easy and follow my instructions. First, let's make sure he's dead."
There is a silence followed by a loud bang, then Stush comes back on the line and says, "Okay, now what?"

In Ephesians 2:1, one of the darkest verses found in the Bible, God reminds all Christians - with full clarity - that we were dead in our trespasses and sins. Though Eve may have loaded the gun with a bullet handed to her by the devil, it was Adam who shot himself. His self-inflicted wound mortally damaged each future, human soul. That shot, which reverberated throughout heaven, was a sin of rebellion, and because of that one sin, we all inherited a sinful nature from Adam. Try as mankind has since then, no human remedy could ever repair the damage. We are separated from God by our sin, and in ourselves, we have no hope of reclaiming any relationship with God. Left to ourselves, we are doomed
But God's mercy is great, and He loved us very much. While we were still sinners, Christ died for our sins and made us acceptable to God. Each and every Christian, formerly known as objects of wrath, is now an object of mercy. God knew we were dead - for sure - then stepped in to make us objects of mercy. We thought we were princes, but God opened our hearts to let us know we were paupers.
God did not panic when Adam rebelled. His plan was set from the foundation of the world. Although all the objects of wrath deserved eternal punishment, God would choose to be merciful to some of them, a choosing based solely on His good pleasure. And His mercy continues to this day, for He is not slack concerning His promise to return. He is just, but He is just extending His mercy over time so that none of us - that's all of the elect - would miss seeing Him pour out the riches of His glory upon us.
These are truths from Scripture that many dismiss, but God, through the words found in the Holy Bible, continues to offer His instructions to all mankind. He does not sugar coat His words, for He loves us too much to allow us to be sugar crisp in hell. He calls to us first negatively; to show us we are all sinners in need of a Savior. Then, He calls us positively by extending His grace to us and giving us the faith we need to trust in Christ. In the calm voice of His Holy Spirit, He speaks to each of us - His children - in love, a love that flows through the blood of Christ. Praise be to our merciful, loving God. Glory to Him forever!
