The telephone's hot and roasting like an oven
things are brewing and spilling out the pot
Then not very far, look, the frying pan is burning
oh the gossip is hitting every spot

All around each hour there is more tongue power
not even a electric storm can quiet this mouse
There it goes zooming through the lines each time
and it does know it's place and house

Now is it Betty and Jane or another new name
of the lives they had buzzed into
The telephone ears are ringing from door to door
but now it's no longer Sal and Sue

Once was a good thing has now become evil
the use of it has turned to blood
Day in and day out, it's the same old route
as gossip lips dig up more mud

A few weeks ago it was all kind words
not a bad saying was on the line
But it didn't last, their still living in the past
and have to say what's on their mind

So the phone starts calling for a new recipe
for the old one's they just won't do
They have cooked up all the junk that they had
now desires to hear something new

Almost make you wonder should you take the call
will it be worth your day and time
And it's sad to say that it may not go that way
because of what they let in their mind

So the ring goes on from dusk to dawn
and the nights are much too long
Can't wait for the sun, gotta know what was done
so I can go and sing my new song

Do you remeber brother Bill and his problem
I wonder if he is still that way
Well I heard he was back, but still off the track
and again begin to stray

So again the private eyes are on the phone line
to see who is doing this and that
And it will not stop long as there's a telephone
and for sure it will need a rat

Now though this poem was meant to be humorous
but this is going on every day
We know this to be true, it's found in the word
but don't have to let it fall our way

The word says that the love of many will wax cold
not even true affections will they show
But will kill you and think they did God a service
these things, we now see and know
