Written 8-2-05

I had laid my head for the night,
And sought to rest for my day was done;
I soon found myself in a desert,
Standing with the Father’s blessed Son.

All around me the expanse was desolate,
A sad sight, with no hint of life;
The ground was dry, as if crying for one to help it,
The sight seemed a tragedy, that cut like a knife.

I asked Jesus, “What is this grievous place?
What of the life that I think should be here?”
“It’s your heart.” The words slapped me in the face;
“The land is dry, from stricken doubt and fear.”

I looked about with a sob, much to my dismay,
Was there nothing good, about this stricken place?
Then He laughed boyishly, like a warm sunlit ray;
And showed me a truth, that brightened up my face.

He stood over a rose, protected by His presence,
So small, yet so fragrant, blooming against the heat;
And with the joyful color, I easily smelled the fragrance,
In spite of it’s surroundings, it’s life was so replete.

Asking where it was from, knowing the answer to the question,
The rose was so unearthly, in this dry forsaken land;
He had planted it there, at my first act of submission,
It had grown as it was, by His loving hand.

“It could flourish more, if you’d trust in Me,
And put off the fear and doubt, that keeps you from My love,
Abiding in My word, that which makes you free.
My presence to descend, as if rain from above.”

“Then I commit my way to You; in You I also trust;
You promise to bring it to pass, to flourish like a field;
You’ll bring me into great glory, risen from the dust;
My life to completely change; Your glory to be revealed!”



Author's Note:
The poem comes from an old song, by Christian Rock group that was named "Whiteheart". It makes me, now, think of the following verses:

"Commit your way to the LORD,
Trust also in Him,
And He shall bring it to pass.
He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light,
And your justice as the noonday."--Psalm 37:5-6
