As many of us are reminded of the recent terror attacks in London, it may cause a little disconcertion in our own hearts. Maybe because September 11th, 2001 was not so very long ago and we are living with constant reminders of just how frail and incompetent we can be against such an attack. At times it may seem like a nightmare that will never end.

During our mission in Africa my husband experienced a horrible nightmare. As I lay there at 2:00 in the morning trying to go to sleep over the loud music and crowd out in the street, I noticed him groaning as if he was in pain. At the sound of his torment I decided to awaken him. I have never known him to have a nightmare like this before. As I awakened him I asked if he was alright. He said he was having a bad dream. Later in the morning as we were getting up I asked him what that bad dream was he was having. He said he was literally fighting the devil for the souls of men. He was in an intense spiritual battle.

Let me encourage you my friends, the spiritual battle never ends. It manifests itself in the physical, but it is a spiritual battle between good and bad, God and Satan. What happened in NY, Madrid and London is a spiritual battle. It appears to be a physical battle because of the fatalities and destruction, but don’t let your eyes fool you. I hear of churches having problems like money problems. My response is that churches do not have money problems, just spiritual problems. Many of our physical problems are rooted in the spiritual part of our lives.

It is important for us to remember the scripture in Ephesians:

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.” (Ephesians 6:12)

We must fight spiritual problems - spiritually, not physically. Ephesians 6:13-17 tells us how to apply our spiritual armor for spiritual combat and finishes by saying,

“With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints, (Ephesians 6:18).”

As a Christian known as a holder of the Faith, a keeper of the Light, it is our responsibility to fight this war spiritually. Is it possible to ever realize that we will see an end to terror? Perhaps not, but we will see an end to the personal attack it can have on us if we equip ourselves spiritually and remember as Christians that we are made for war, war of the spiritual kind!
