"Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16 NASB

Perusing through a lighthouse magazine I was enjoying all the different structures portrayed throughout the nation and elsewhere. I am a great admirer of lighthouses and find them to be filled with antiquated artifacts and stories from faithful keepers.In comparing the lighthouse structures and the stories so eloquently told by seamen and “keepers” of the light I was thrilled to hear God calling me a “keeper” of the Light.

Those who have willingly surrendered themselves to the Light of Christ know without a doubt that He has illumined their lives with His very presence. In doing so, we can hardly contain His brilliance, though some do choose to do so with deliberant activeness.

In short, I want to encourage you dear brothers and sisters, as a keeper of the Light, it is our responsibility to make sure that the Light in our hearts, being Christ, is shining ever so brightly.

Maybe your light hasn’t been shining too bright lately. How do we manage to dim that light? By gossip, by disobedience, by rejection of the truth, by ignoring His presence and by not being a student of the Word.

Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, "I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life." John 8:12 NASB

Just as the “keepers” of the Lighthouses take time to ensure that the lenses on the lighthouses are working correctly, we too must do a spiritual inspection of our heart. Are our motives pure or tainted by what others have said or done? Do we seek Christ whole heartedly, or hardly at all? Do we aspire to become the man or woman that God designed us to be or did we retire from the call? Are the lenses of our heart cracked and causing the light to be distorted? Maybe they haven’t had a good cleaning lately, causing things to look a little muddied up.

Let’s take a moment today to do a check up on our heart. As keepers of the “Light” we must be careful to keep our hearts in good repair. Let me challenge you to allow His Spirit to wipe off the lenses so your light will shine ever so brightly! In doing so, others will be able to see the good works that Christ has done in you and they will glorify the Father.
