Why Are Prayers Answered?

Why are prayers answered was asked one night at a meeting. I though it would be a good idea for an article. Why do we pray and why are they answered?
While thinking about this I came up with, no matter what religion we are brought up in we are told that what we ask for in prayer is received. Okay, now we are grown up and we still accept the adage that what we ask for in prayer we receive. But why? “How,” may be a better question?
Would faith have anything to do with it? Lets define faith. To me, before I look in the dictionary, faith is belief in a Higher Power. A trust that something/someone is greater than I am. An entity some call God, Jesus, the Christ, Buddha or other names of the same reverence. Belief in the unseen but knowing It is there for me. Not out there somewhere but within me, closer than my breath. To have my prayers answered I have to let go of, I can do this by myself and say “Okay God I turn this over to You, I can not handle it on my own.” Now I am open and can receive inspiration from God ideas.
When we are open we make way for what we have been “praying” for to be answered. Maybe it doesn’t come from a Greater Power but we have let go of “I can do this” and open to new ideas. Maybe that is the answer to why prayers are answered. But what if you feel your prayer isn’t answered the way you want. Now that is something else to think about. Maybe what you prayed for is not what you really want. Think about it. You ask for a good life, a prosperous life. What is that? There is no definite object there. Now if you ask for someone to love and be loved by and describe that person. You are being definite.
Now for the description of faith from Webster’s dictionary: Faith, belief in a revealed religion, trust or reliance, a system of religious doctrines, belief in loyalty.
Maybe I haven’t answered the question of Why Are Prayers Answered to your specification but I think I have to mine. Answered prayers are knowing what we are looking for and going within in to find the answer. Letting go of ME and finding the truth of the situation and for the good of all.3/25/2005
