Here's another memoir from the travel agent. A person called and
wanted to book a round trip to Pepsi-Cola, Florida. The bewildered
agent said, "We have no destination by that name. Did you possibly
mean Pensacola FL?" Reply -- "Yeah, whatever." I hope people aren't
that nonchalant about booking their trip to Heaven.

We are in the process of considering a new product for use in our craft
endeavors. We haven't decided to go ahead, but we have decided where
we will get it if and when. The reason for our choice -- dealer depend-
ability and expert service. I spent my career in the service industry, so I
know the importance of reliable service.

We could probably get it cheaper on the Internet, but where is the
service? You can probably get a church service on TV, but where is
the service? Who is there to hold your hand when you are in the
hospital?

Our churches should be attracting newcomers partially for the same
reasons -- reliability and service. The church should be a new-birthing
station for sinners and a service station for saints. Folks should find us
to be trustworthy, reliable, dependable and eager to provide services
like friendliness, counsel, companionship, prayer partners, disciplers,
etc. Can new folks depend on us to be non-gossipers and true friends.
Hopefully, the above describes your church. Service sells -- whether in
business or in church.

Now I'm going to get personal and start meddling. Are you helping
your church, by example, to achieve the above or are you standing on
the sidelines while others take care of the action? Just thought I'd ask.

In 1 Tim. 1:12, we have this remarkable statement. As we read it, let's
ask, "Can I say that?" -- "How thankful I am to Christ Jesus our Lord
for considering me trustworthy and appointing me to serve Him?"
Trustworthy Service -- that would make a nice banner over your church
entrance.
