Figuring Out The Puzzle Of Life

Fuming, then overturning a card table before kicking a chair out of her path, Brandy, 16 years old, left the house. Pieces of a puzzle lay scattered all over the living room. Her mother looked flabbergasted as she attempted to explain Brandy’s behavior to visiting relatives and friends.

“I’m lost for words,” she said. “The puzzle she is working on is designed for children under the age of 12 years. Brandy actually does well until she gets to the water part of the Lake Tahoe puzzle. With all that blue color, Brandy really gets confused then she gets angry and confused by the variety of different shapes that she is confronted with. She tries to get the parts to fit each other. When they don’t fit the way she wants them to, she get very, very angry.

“Her problem is and continues to be,” her mother continued to explain, “that instead of being patient and getting the pieces to fit with each other, she tries to turn the puzzle around until it fits the pieces. And well, the whole puzzle falls apart.”

If most of us stop and think about it, haven’t we all tried that? Almost daily, I find that I try to fit family and friends into my plans rather than adapting myself to theirs. And what about God? Do I try to fit Jesus Christ into my life instead of allowing Him to use my life as a part of his plan?

Remembering the scattered puzzle, I know what I have to do with certain aspects of my life.
