Grief
'In the sweet by and by, we shall meet on that beautiful shore', is the first line of the chorus of my dad's favourite hymn.
My dad is no longer with us. He died when I was three years old yet as I grow more mature in years I am thinking about him a lot more.
At three years old, it may seem a little presumptous to expect at that age, a child could remember a father or mother or both, but I did, and still do remember my dad.
I have such sweet memories of daddy, and with such clarity too, that I believe God has blessed me with them as a special gift.
My daddy used to play the accordiion, harmonica and organ. He couldn't read a note, but he had the gift of playing by 'ear'. He would play hymns for me on the accordion often, and he would pour a cup of black tea for me to drink too.
The best memory though, is when he would carry me on his shoulders. We call it a 'piggyback'.
This so reminds me of my Heavenly Father, who when we are tired and weary, picks us up gently and lovingly, and places us on His shoulders. What a secure and intimate place to be - a haven of rest and love.
My dad is secure in the arms of Jesus now, and I often wonder about him. I wonder what his new body is like, and what he thinks of his new home. I would still love to be able to touch him ,speak with him, hug him yet I know this is physically impossible. I often ask the Lord to let daddy know I still think about him and love him, and that one day I will be with him, never to be parted again.
In thinking these things, I realise that as a child I was unable to grieve for my dad in the way I should have done. Now, some 44 years later, I am strongly and more frequently reminded of him, and in between my precious memories, I also have a tear or two.
However, God is healing me from scars I have unknowingly carried for a long time, and now He is working with me, knowing I am strong enough to deal with it.
'There's a land that is fairer than day,
And by grace we can see it afar.
For the Father waits over the way
To prepare us a dwelling place there.
In the sweet by and by
We shall meet on that beautiful shore
In the sweet by and by
We shall meet on that beautiful shore
We shall sing on that beautiful shore
The melodious songs of the blest.
And our spirits shall sorrow no more -
Not a sigh for the blessing of rest.
To our bountiful Father above
We will offer the tribute of praise.
For the glorious gift of his love
And the blessings that hallow our days.'

These are precious memories of your Dad. I like the image of The Father putting us on His shoulders. Their is safety there and an intimate portrait of Daddy God. Thanks for the blessing.
