“ Submit Yourself To God, Resist The Devil”

James 4:7 states: Submit yourselves therefore unto God resist the devil and he will flee from you. We must submit ourselves unto God if we are going to receive the power of God. We need the power of God because that`s what is takes to defeat the enemy. The power is the Holy Spirit, fasting, prayer and using the Word of God. For too long, believers have been submitting to satan and resisting God. That is the reason why so many of us are defeated. If the enemy is going to flee from us, it`s going to be through walking in the spirit.

The first part of the scripture says submit yourselves therefore unto God. That is the first step towards living a victorious live in Christ. We must submit our heart, soul and mind to God because he is the source of our strength. We cannot do anything without him, and with him, we can do all things. First Corinthians 10:4 say: the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds.

The second part of the scripture says resist the devil. I believe that there are many people even believers who do not know that there is a personal demon that is assigned to them. The demon is responsible for pushing your buttons to get you to sin and fall. Although the wicked spirits are responsible for tempting us, we are responsible for our actions. When we are tempted it is up to us whether we go left or right. The devil must be resisted because he wants to keep us in spiritual bondage eventually turning us away from Christ. The Bible says we are not unaware of satan`s devices.

First peter 5:8 says: Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.

The third part of the scripture says he will flee from you. I believe that when we resist the devil he has no choice but to flee from us because we are closing the doors in our lives so satan has no access. The temptations and suggestions are no longer acted on so now he`s got to flee. When we put on the armor of the Lord Jesus Christ satan and his evil spirits have no hold on us. They must obey when we biblically take authority in Jesus name.

As born again believers we have power over the devil and his works and some of us don`t even know it. Some Christians believe that the devil has control over us. The truth is that when we were in the world satan had control over us; but when we came to Christ the story changed. The bible says therefore if any man is in Christ he is a new creature: old things are passed away behold, all things are become new.

When Christ went to hell and rose on the third day, he took the keys of hell and the power of death with him. Being that we are seated with Christ in heavenly places that means we as heirs of Christ we have power over death too. When you submit to God satan can not kill you because the blood of Jesus is upon you. The only way the devil can kill you is if YOU open the door. Luke 10:19 says: behold I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

As we grow in God we begin to recognize his influence in the financial, educational, political department and governments of the world. The reason for the corruption is a godless society. When society resists God they automatically submit to the devil. Submitting to God is the first step. Resisting the devil is the second, and finally he will flee from you. It does not mean that he will not come back. It just means that the fight of faith is not over yet; and it won`t be until Christ returns. When Christ does return we can say it is finished. Amen.
