Working On Behalf Of The Lord

For several years I had difficulty getting to sleep some nights. Instead of going to sleep, I would just lie there staring at the walls sometimes counting the lines on the wood panels. Regardless, my mind continued to function as I listened to cats meowing or fighting. Not so interesting!

Finally, I said, “How useless! I’m beating myself up and wearing myself out trying to get some sleep. What the heck! Why not do something useful.”

Then I asked myself: “How best to use the time? Work on client progress notes. Hah, I do that much of my work time at the office. Watch late night television? Nope! Might wake up the rest of the family. Maybe I will use the sleepless hours that I hardly have much time to do—writing!”

From now on, whenever I found myself tossing and turning, I would keep a clipboard by or under the bed to write my thoughts. Now when I have sleepless sessions, I get up and briefly thank God for the additional time He has given me. Eighty percent of my writings are written between 9:00 PM and 12:00 AM and 4:00 AM and 6:00AM. Perhaps this lack of sleepiness is likely due to my many years in the United States Army whose late to bed and early to rise seems to have influenced my sleeping behaviors. But I thank God, nonetheless, for them.

As I grow sleepy, I would put away my writing tools and go to sleep. Most of the time, I only manage to get four hours of sleep. Now when I get up in the morning, I am just as refreshed as if I had slept soundly for eight hours. Generally, I am not tired but energized! Energized to accomplish my difficult tasks in the people business. To help people appropriately deal with those things and lifestyles that separates them from their God and the ability to live happily and joyfully.

In time, my gift of late night writing has been a blessing to me and hopefully to others for the praise and glory of Almighty God who knows all and influences everything. God will help you deal with whatever bothers you to work on His behalf for His Glory and your salvation!
