I Dare You!

Romans 5:7 “…though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die.”

Remember the days of the old double dog dare. The infamous TRIPLE D. When was the last time you were challenged with a double or even triple dog? One of my favorites, a movie called, “The Sandlot”, cast a skinny, loud mouth10 year old named “Squintz.” After practicing baseball on the hot sandlot, the boys decide to take a dip in the local pool. Squintz of course, has a huge crush on the lifeguard. His buddies give the double D like a court order. Squintz must quickly take action to salvage face. Squintz suddenly sinks to the bottom of the pool like a professional! The lifeguard dives to his rescue and begins mouth to mouth. As Squints is “Being Revived”, he opens one eye toward the team and winks. William Wallace would gladly play second fiddle to this new legend.

Has God ever challenged or dared you to trust him for something or someone? Did He come through? The truth is, He always comes through, just maybe not your way! The truth is God loves a dare. He really only does His best work if a double is at stake. If I can be frank, most hate to dare God though? It’s too risky! What if God fails, we mutter, and shrink back into mediocrity and put our life jacket back on. I’m almost certain Peter was dared by Jesus to step onto the water. I can here Peter, “Did you say double dog Jesus?” What about the three mighty men who risked death to draw water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem? You can bet these three champions thrived on a dare. Where do you think the Triple Dog came from anyways? Abraham dared the death of Isaac; Jacob dared to wrestle with God; Joseph dared to interpret dreams; Moses dared Pharaoh; Joshua & Caleb dared the promise land; Elijah dared the prophets of Baal, Daniel dared the lions; 3 Hebrew boys dared the flames; David dared Goliath, Sampson dared the philistines; Jesus dared Satan, and God dared to give you and me a eternal message about a dare he took 2000 years ago on a cross.

I love the verse, “If God is for us, who can be against us?” Rom 8:31 That mean you win if your on His team no matter how bad it gets. You and God are the majority! D.L. Moody said, “If God is your partner, don’t make your plans small.” Don’t be afraid to crawl up in Daddy’s lap and ask for an outpouring of His Spirit on your dorm, your campus, your city! If you make it a double dog dare, God just might. Just a thought.
