She was but a child of fifteen years old
When the life changing news she was told
In nine months from now she’d be a mother
She could keep it, kill it, or give to another

The choice was hers alone to make
To have the child or its life to take
To give it away to another
And give up her rights as its mother

She was told of a doctor who could use a hanger
To “take care of the problem,” but with some danger
In confusion and fear she opened the door
Horrified at the pool of blood on the floor

She ran and cried and fell to her knees
Begging for God to please, please, please
Help her to do the only right thing
And into the world this life to bring

She heard a voice inside her say
“My child, everything will be okay”
In months the baby took her first breath
My mother had chosen life and not death

Today I give thanks to the Father above
For my mother’s selfless and undying love
Mom, thank you for making life your choice
And for yielding to that still small voice

There’s no greater love than what you gave
You spared us all from the miniature grave
And to those with a choice to make today
Please know that everything will be okay



Deut 30: 19-20b (NIV) This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord you God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him.
