Somewhere someone is speaking
To someone who isn't listening.
Someone is longing
In the silence of the heart
For bridges over differences,
For a line to be thrown from the other side--
Someone is seeking common ground
With someone who's not there.

Somewhere people seem to be
What they are not
And some people are not seen
For what they are.
Camoflauge, incidental and overt,
Somewhere keeps the broken line unmended
Assures the aloneness of the crowd
Where someone inside weeps.

Somewhere nothing is the way it seems
And no one knows why this must be
And no one reaches from inside
And draws another in.
And, somewhere in the stillness of all hearts,
A wounded hope greater than the world
Lingers like a lark, with a sad, sweet melody
That keeps all men apart.

Somewhere a line is being thrown
From the other side--
One who is just what he seems
Is reaching from inside himself
To draw the whole world within--
Where there is common ground.
And he speaks, where hearts are listening,
With a peace greater than the world.
