“Sometimes True Soldiers Have To Stand Alone”
By
Calvin J. Moss
St. Matthew 26:31 says: Then saith Jesus unto them, “All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the Shepherd and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad. But, after I am rise again, I will go before you into Galilee. Peter answered and said unto him, though all men shall be offended because of thee yet will I never be offended. Jesus said unto him verily I say unto thee, that this night before the cock crow thou shalt deny me thrice. Peter said unto him though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples. When Judas came with the elders and chief priests to take Jesus verse 56 mentions then all the disciples forsook him and fled. My thought is sometimes true soldiers have to stand alone. As Christians, we do not always travel in groups. Although Jesus traveled with twelve men, at some point he had to travel alone and travel to the cross he did. The same goes for us as well. As we found out, this Christian life can be and is a lonely journey. Even though God is with us, we have to be willing to walk without friends and family. We came into this world alone and will leave alone. We have to work out our own salvation.
Many of us have family members who have turned their backs on God because they were not willing to stand for salvation. The world has an old saying that says ‘if you don`t stand for something you will fall for anything”. Are you willing to stand alone. Jesus said
“For I am come to set a man at variance against his father and the daughter in-law against her mother in-law and man`s foes shall be those of his own household” (St. Matthew 10:35-36).
So we know that a quality of a true soldier is his/her willingness to stand alone. He is willing to pray, read the bible and go to Church alone. Sometimes he will have to go to sleep alone even though he is married. True soldiers must be willing to count all things dung that they may come into the excellency of the lord Jesus Christ. The Apostle Paul says in second Corinthians 4:8-9: We are troubled on every side yet not distressed; we are perplexed but not in despair; persecuted but not forsaken; cast down but not destroyed. True soldiers are over comers. So I say unto you, stand when no one wants to go to church with you; stand even though you get told how come you pray all the time; stand when you get told why are you in church all the time; just stand. The devil brings subtle persecution by friends and loved ones. He uses those closest to you. Not everyone wants to travel the journey of Christ. Everyone wants to go to heaven but on their own terms. Jesus said he that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And he that taketh not his cross and followeth after me is not worthy of me (St. Matthew 10:38-39). So the question remains. Are you willing to stand and do so alone? Amen.
