I had the neatest friend when I was in junior high and high school. Loretta’s parents let her stay up as late as she wanted to watch her favorite programs.
Dinner was sometimes served as late as nine o’clock, and you could eat in front of the television if you wanted to. When Loretta thought she was pregnant, her father didn’t even get upset. Thankfully, she wasn’t. An annual trip to Disneyland was taken every summer. Boy would I like to be in that family.

My illusion was quickly shattered, when after an argument, both Loretta and her sister were kicked out of the house after an argument with their mother. Having about one hundred dollars between them, they rented a cheap motel room. Since there was only one bed, one slept on the mattress and one on the box springs. A month passed before their mother permitted them to move back home. Their family was not so perfect after all.

How many times has the grass looked greener on the other side? When our lives are in turmoil, it’s easy to imagine that we are the only ones having problems. We look at other people and think how much easier things would be if we could just live their life instead of our own.

I lost my husband to liver cancer in October of 2002. My marriage was a happy one and I wanted to marry again. After asking for God’s guidance, I remarried in June of 2004. As my husband and I planned our wedding, I began preparations to give notice at my work, and move fifty miles away. It was an exciting, yet scary time.

As word spread at my job that I was resigning, so many people came up to tell me how lucky I was. The people who disliked the job were the most vocal. Mark would be supporting me while I answered God’s call to be a writer. “How nice,” said one of my co-workers. “You can sleep in everyday, write when you want to, I wish I could stay at home and do nothing all day.”

She clearly was not seeing the big picture. Yes, I felt lucky to have found a wonderful, Christian man to marry, but I was also scared to death. Nine years had been spent at this job, and I was losing that security. My apartment had a one year lease that I wasn’t sure I could get out of. I didn’t know if I would be successful as a writer. Constant prayer kept me from falling apart from the stress.

God worked all my problems out and I have been married almost a year. I’ve learned that coveting is based on a false illusion. What you see on the outside ,can be much different than what’s happening on the inside. Everyone has problems and trials and God has a solution especially designed to fit that individual.

The issue of coveting is so important to God, He included it in the Ten Commandments. Exodus 20:17- Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.”(KJV)
